CONCERT AT SOUTH DUNEDIN

PRESBYTERIAN SUNDAY SCHOOL

The St. Hilda, Coronation Hall was filled with a largo and appreciative audience last evening, when a concert organised to augment the funds of the South Dunedin Presbyterian Sunday School was held. Most of the performers were juveniles from the Sunday school, anil their offerings were of a most enjoyable nature. 'lbe stage was brilliantly lighted with colored lamps, while the hall was prettily decorated with festoons of streamers. The programme was a lengthy one, there being 49 items for presentation. Of this number SO were offered, the remainder to bo given this evening, when another concert will bo held. Mr J. Kirbv (superintendent ol the school) said that the Sunday school was in need of funds, and it was for that reason that the concerts were being held. The programme was made up chiefly by performers from their own Sunday school, but some friends bad come io their assistance. Miss Doreen Wheeler had brought along a largo number of performers from the Y.W.C.A., and others were assisting. The first item presented was a recitation (‘Daddy and I’) by a very diminutive performer, George Perry, who was loudly applauded. The “ Beginners ” sang ‘The Farmyard,’ Joan Caddie recited ‘ The Wish,’ and Gordon Field danced the Highland fling. The Primary I. girls sang ‘ Taplc’s Baby, six small girls recited ‘ Babies’ Burdens.’ The Primary No. I. then gave a ‘ Flag Song,’ Clara Jacobs recited ‘ Hts Way, and iris Gordon danced a sailor’s hornpipe. Bertha Baker and Edna Cullen sang ‘The Lilac Tree,’ the junior girls ‘ Miss Milhgan’s Girls,’ and Dalwood Stewart recited ‘ Timothy Todd.’ The Primary No. 11. followed with a song, ‘ A Railway Tram.’ C. Soulshy and C. Hcggie gave ‘TwoLittle Girls 'in Blue.’ Miss Daphne Allan danced the sword dance, Lois Warnock and Jeffery Phelan sang ‘ Pixies, Goodnight.’ Next the girls gave ‘The Awkward Squad,’ the senior girls presented ‘Country Dances,’ and the Standard IV. girls ‘From Here to Shanghai.’ Jovce Dyer and Gladys Merry played a pianoforte duet, the junior girls sang Grandmothers Old,’ and Molly Ross danced. Fred. Wedlake sang, and other items were contributed by F. M'Curdy, the Standard V. girls, Phyllis Holt, and Jessie Eraslie, P.hyllis Haig, Myra Webster, and Margaret Davey, Violet M‘Gco, George Lemon, Miss Cara Petersen, Miss Doreen Wheeler’s pupils, Standard VI. hoys, and Violet Lunnii. In addition there were ‘Toy Tin Soldiers on Parade,’ with “The Wee Sentry I’’ 1 ’’ taking the salute; ‘The Fairy Pipers,’ the leader being Iris Gorfjon; the scena ‘ Arahy,’ in which ‘The Damo of the Nile ’ was introduced by Misses Ruby Robinson and Vida M'Kenzie; ‘The Little Dutchies,’ and ‘ Hongkong Dream Girl,’ Sylvia Blackman taking the vocal part. These little scenes were exceedingly well presented. The pipe music for the dancing was supplied by Piper George Yardley. At the conclusion of the concert a vote of thanks, moved by the Rev. D.
