DEATH OF CONSTABLE
ACCIDENTALLY SHOT. PreM Association—By Telegraph—Copyright CANBERRA, November 8. (Received November 8, at 10.30 a.m.) According to information received from the Home Territories Department regarding the death of Constable Clapp, Clapp was arresting a man on a charge of supplying liquor to a half-caste, and took a pistol from him and stuck it in his own bolt. As he did so it exploded, and the bullet pierced an artery of'the constable’s leg. Ho died in a few minutes. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned. [A previous message _ stated that a message from Katherine says that Mounted-constable Clapp, while bringing a prisoner to Katherine, wms ambushed and shot and died. Details are meagre. Constable Clapp has been reiponsible for many prosecutions at Marranboy. It is stated that a threat of nolenco had been made. Another report states that Constable Clapp arrested the prisoner and took a revolver from him, which lie stuck in his belt and which accidentally went off.]
