lIK.MARKABLF CFRATIVE EFFECTS. One of the most encouraging effects of the use of iodised sweets in the Cumberland .schools during the past year (says the Carlisle correspondent of the ‘Manchester Guardin’) is the report by (lie head teachers to the school medical officer of the improvement in the work of backward children. .In the case of one *irl, who is now one of tho brightest, children in the schoolan enormous goitre has completely disappeared. In another case a child gained a, stone in weight in six months. In cases of goitre patients have been able to withstand tlio cold weather much belter than formerly with half the protection in the way of clothing. Dr Kenneth Fraser says that tbc claims made twelve months ago as to the value- of iodine thorapv were not over, but under-stated. lire number of cases in Cumberland whose case-re-cords can be produced to substantia to this statement has now increased to several hundreds. Further experiments are being made with iodine contained in a tablet of naphthaline.
