The Rev. James Barr, R.D., M.P., whoso visit to these shores lias created the liveliest interest, particularly amongst the Scottish community, and whose meetings have been crowded out in the North Island, is an outstanding man in the public life of Scotland. Resides being a distinguished divine ot the Touted Free Church of Scotland, Air Barr is ALP. for Alotlierwcl! in the Gabor interest, and has won ior himself a great popularity as a lecturer, elocutionist, and temperance reformer. Air Barr is touring the dominion under the auspices ol a committee comprising representatives ni h' (> Presbyterian Church, the Scottish societies, the Now /calami Labor Party, New /calami Alliance, lecturing in a largo number of places. In some cases Air Barr recites to illustrate his subject; in others, limelight illustrations aro used. Eloquence, humor, and pathos mingle to provide a most interesting and informative address. A meeting of the Dunedin United Commitlen representing the above societies was held last evening, whop final arrangements for his visit to this city were completed. Air Barr is to he tendered a civic reception at the Town Hall at 4. p.m. on Friday, August 26; speaks at the Scottish societies’ gathering in iho evening on ‘Scotland in Store. Song, and _ Scenery ’: conducts div'Bs service at First Church and Knox Church on Sunday, August 2S: sneaks at a monster Prohibition rally in the Octagon Mall in tho afternoon, at 3. on ‘Scotland and tho World Fight Against the Liquor Traffic Hand at. a. Labor rally in tho same hall at S> v.ra. on ‘Christianity and the Labor Atovenient.’ On tlie Afondny evening Air Barr will give Ids fascinating lecture pi the Early Settlers’ Hall 011 ‘TV Parliamentary History of Great Britain ’ (with limelight illustrations).
