NORTH EAST HARBOR NOTES
■ Another successful euchre tournament, under the auspices of the Anglican Committee, was held in Malcolm's Tea Rooms last Wednesday evening. Tho prizes were won by Mrs Hook and Mr Rowlands, while the “boobies” were annexed by Mrs .Niven and Mr Lou Rudd.
Tho annual competitions among the pupils of the local school were held in the hall last Saturday evening. There was a. largo gathering of parents and friends, who thoroughly enjoyed tho various items rendered hy the competitors. Mr J. MADonald (chairman of tho School Committee) presided, and specially thanked the judges for their assistance. Miss Molly Vickers judged the singing and Miss Noollene -Parker tho elocution. ■ The pupils More under tho guidance of Mr Duke (head master) and, Miss Rotting (mistress),, and in addition to the various competition items they gave an _ opening chorus, while the senior girls sang ‘ Good Night.’ Following were the results:— Elocution. Infants (seven entries) Gertrude Taylor I, Joan Turner and Atholic Turner (equal) 2; Standards I. and 11. (five entries) —Nancy Bricked ], Stewart Churchill 2, Joy Churchill /!; Standards 111. and JV. (five entries) —Betty Riddell 1, Bruce Scott 2, Jean MTherson d; Standards V. and VI. (four entries)—Denis Bricked 1, Audrey Carroll 2, Olive Wilson d. Singing: Infants (four entries) —• June Andrews 1, Adeline Mafett 2; Standards I. and 11. (live entries) Myra, Niven 1, Martha Andreovs 2;
Standards 111. and IV. (tli rec entries) —Jessie M'Pherson 1, Betty Riddell 2; Standards V. and VJ. (three entries) —Cecil Bricked 1, Francos Marett and Irene Landreth (equal) --2; Alter the competitions a dance was held and an entertainment for the distribution of the prizes won will bo held in a fortnight’s time. A fancy dress dance, organised by the ladies of the local Anglican Committee will be held in ilie hall this evening, and on previous occasions <ho ladies have run similar functions very successfully. Prizes will be given for the best costumes and also for the progressive euchre; On Wednesday evening a euchre tournament was held by the Orphans’ Club, there being a large number of players present. The successful players were: Ladies—Mrs Kellett 1, Mrs Ferguson 2; gentlemen—Mr G. Bayne 1, Mr Jones 2.
