Whether to lake the oath of allegiance lor the sake of principle or to reconcile their consciences by hanging on to’ their seats, is the problem confronting the Fianna Fail Party in the Free State. Since the passing of the Public Safety Act the ‘ Daily Herald’s ’ Dublin correspondent learns that the party, in view of the changed circumstance's, has decided to reconsider its attitude, and meets to-night to discuss whether it would be better to take the oath in order to repeal the Act at the first opportunity. It is understood that Dc Valera is opposed to taking the oath under any circumstances. A Government defeat is likely if the Fianna Party enters the Dail in a body. PUBLIC SAFETY BILL. - LONDON, August 10. The ‘Gazette’ states that Mr Cosgrave, in replying to Colonel Moore’s motion for the rejection of the Public Safety Bill on the ground that coercion Acts are always futile, said that the Government intended to crush crime, whatever wore the consequences.
