A strong protest was made by tbo Management Committee of the Auckland Football Association last evening against the appointment of an outside referee to control the test match Canada v. New Zealand at Carlaw Park on Saturday, and it was resolved to telegraph objecting to an outside appointment when local referees were appointed in all other centres: and it was also decided to suggest that Parkinson control the game. The matter was opened when the chairman read a telegram from Wellington stating that _G. Cox, of Hamilton, had been appointed for the test, and L. C. II Dawson for the match against Auckland. Mr T. G. Wilkes, in expressing the opinion of the Auckland Referees’ Association. stated that the appointment of an outside man for the test was considered a slur on the Inca! officials. He thought the Management Committee should enter a strong protest. Air Dawson intimated that he was in an unenviable position in being selected to control the match between Canada, and Auckland, in view of the fact that he was secretary of the Auckland Football Association. He was not prepared to accept nomination in the circumstances. GOLF. ST. CLAIR BEATEN. Sixteen members of the St. Clair Ladies’ Club met a team from the Invercargill Ladies’ Golf Club at Otatara yesterdav under good golfing conditions. The home side wen 18 games out of the 24 played. St. Clair won three singles and "one foursome,_ the .remaining two matches finishing all square. BOGEY MATCH. A bogey match was played on the Balmaccwen links yesterday. The best scores were: — A Grade. —Miss Kyle (18), 1 down ; Mrs' Dodgshun (1), 2 down; Mrs Sims (17). 4 down; Airs Alilne (18), 5 down. B Grade. —Aliss W. Johnstone (29), o up; Miss 1. Hart (31), 2 down; Aliss E. Hart (30), 2 down; Aliss Holmes (25), 5 down.
