AMERICAN AIRMEN

TRANSATLANTIC FLIERS . NEW YORK’S WELCOME. 1 • Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. NEW YORK. July 18. Chamberlin, Byrd, Neville, Balcben, and Acosta returned in the Leviathan, and were given a civic reception. They were welcomed with flags, music, speeches, and the customary liberal quantities of ticker tape and torn paper. There was not the same wild enthusiasm as was evidenced when Lindbergh returned, but hundreds of thousands of people lined Broadway from the battery to the City Hall, and cheered the airmen heartily. A _ sudden heavy shower marred the civic ceremonies, sending the crowd scurrying for shelter. Notwithstanding this, the programme was carried out. The mayor, Mr Walker, decorated the airmen, who ihen proceeded to the Eternal Light War Memorial, where they deposited a wreath, after which they reviewed parade.
