CATTLE BRANDING OIL
ERADICATING CRUELTY Claiming that it will eradicate the cruelly inseparable from the present hot-iron method, Mr Robert Coghill brought before yesterday’s meeting of tho Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals his proposal to use a cattle branding oil which should bo as economical as it was effective. Mr Coghill wrote to the society in regard to the cattle branding nil vhich ho proposed to introduce to take the place of tho present hot-iron method, ft would brand tho animals with a legible mark without causing them undue suffering. It was almost pamlcss in its action and it would not damage tho hide. In practice there muid be no difficulty in branding fifty annuals per hour, as against the present Uu. The chairman (Sir George Fenwick) said that tho writer of the letter had called upon him and had expressed his opinion that there was a. very great deal of cruelty in the ordinary branding of cattle. Mr Coghill was satisfied it would eliminate cruelty in branding and he was certain it would bo 'cry effective He was also of the opinion that it would ho economical to adopt this means of branding, and lie (tno speaker) himself said that he thought it might eradicate crucify in the branding of cattle. Mr Crosby Morris; Pam, not cruelty, Sir George! The Rev. W. Saunders suggested that the letter bo forwarded to the Farmers’ XTnion, but it was- stated that a copy had already been sent to that I,U Mr Crosby Morris said that if. there were anything equally as effective as fire brand, and which would not damage the hide, it would sell itself. Jt would bo a. good thing to forward the letter to the A. and P. Society. It was resolved to forward tho letter to that body and to look into the matter and report.
