HIGH AMERICAN SALARIES
A number of Englishmen arc to-day employed hy tho great American departmental stores as lashiqn advisers, and are being paid salaries ranging from £2,000 to £5,000 a year. Their duties are to superintend tho “copy” which appears in the advertisements, consult and guide buyers as to tho merchandise they should buy on Their visits to Europe, and suggest to customers tho clothes _ that should be worn on certain occasions.
A knowledge of what is correct m dress and the method of wearing clothes is not the only qualification. To be an Knglislunnn, and, if possible, a member of 'a good family, or to have served in tho Brigade of Guards is quite sufficient to secure such an appointment.
