AUSTRALIAN WOOL

DETERIORATING IN QUALITY

MISLEADING FIGURES

Press Association—Bj Telegraph—Copyright

MELBOURNE. Juno 21. (Received June 21, at 11.5 a.m.)

At the annual meeting of the Goldshrougli, Mort, and Co., the chairman (Mr Niall) said: “Australian wool is tending to deteriorate, and the sheep numbers (without allowing for the drought losses iu Queensland, which are estimated at from 7,000,000 to 8,000,000) are 13,000,000 less than they were iu 1891. The, figures may lead some people to think that the industry is in an extremely prosperous condition, and certain politicians are attempting to introduce legislation to reduce the area of land being used for sheep-growing. The figures, however, are misleading.”
