POLICE COURT

WEDNESDAY, MAY IS. (Before Mr J. 11. Bartholomew, S.M.) MAINTENANCE. Simon Muir,, who did not appear, was proceeded against on a complaint for separation, maintenance, and guardianship. Mr C. J. L. White appeared for complainant, who stated that she married in 1921, and had two children. Two months ago the parties had separated under agreement, and since, that time complainant had not received any maintenance from defendant, who was in Invercargill. The orders asked for were granted, maintenance being fixed at 80s per week, with past maintenance (£9), and solicitor’s fee (£2 2s). Benno Egmond Alfonso Von Look, a seafaring man, was proceeded against on a complaint for separation from his wife. He did not appear, and complainant gave evidence concerning his desertion. She had not heard from him for a long time, and she did not know his whereabouts.—The separation order was granted. FOR SENTENCE. A youth of seventeen years of age was charged with having at Biymsido indecently assaulted a girl fourteen years of age.—The Magistrate made an order clearing the court and prohibiting publication of details of. the evidence.—The complainant gave her evidence, alleging that the assault took place as she was coming from a neighbor’s house, where she had been to borrow books. The witness indicated that there had been no very serious results from the assault.—Further evidence was given by the mother and the father of the girl, and by Detective Farquharson. —Accused, who was represented by Mr A. C. Hanlon, pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court' for sentence. On the application of counsel accused’s name was suppressed, and he was ordered to be placed under the control of the probation officer in tho meantime.
