Professor J. Shelley and members of the Canterbury College Drama Society returned to Christchurch, by the secoud express today. Mr D. H. Cameron has resigned his position as chief reporter of the ‘ Hansard ’ staff. Mr Cameron was a member of tho staff for over thirty years. Mr John Barron, of High street, left by yesterday’s express on a visit to Vancouver. A Press Association message from Auckland announces tho death of Mr Robert Prater, aged eighty-five, tho oldest surviving original member of the Auckland Stock Exchange. , A London cable message states that, continuing his brilliant medical record in Melbourne, Dr J. C. Eccles Victorian Rhodes Scholar in 1925, has won an Oxford University Scholarship for biological research, the value of which is £IOO per annum .or four years. The Rov. Father O’Dea, who was recently transferred to Gore from Omakau parish was farewellcd by the pcope of Ophir on April 20. All classes of the community assembled to do him honor and make h.ui a presentation of a gold-mounted walking stick and am easy chair. .One ■qt the speakers mentioned the fact that for twenty-five vears tho rev. father conducted an early Sunday morning service at St. Bathans. travelled twenty-four miles by horse and gig, and held another service at noon. Ho never once failed the people in this respect. Dr and Mrs Howard Taylor, of tho China Inland Mission, were passengers from Christ, church to Invercargill yesterday. They wera accompanied by the Rev H. S. Conway tho organising secretary of the China Inland Mission at Auckland. After giving addresses in tha southern towns they return to Dunedin on Wednesday, the 18th inst.. and begin a series, of meetings and services here. Visitors to the Grand Hotel include Mr D.
