TALLOW SALES
LONDON, May 4. At the tallow sales 1,062 casks were offered, and 457 were sold. Mutton: Fine, 275; medium, 355. Beef : Fine, 395; medium, 35s.—A.P.A. and ‘Sun’ Cable.
THE WHEAT MARKET.
LONDON, May 4. Cargoes are firm, prices having been influenced by the reports of drought in Europe and sustained Continental inquiry for Australian and River Plate. Quotations advanced from 6d to 9d, and parcels showed a fair advance. Liverpool futures: May, 10s Ilfd ; July, 10s 9|d; Octobex - , 10s SJd. —A.P.A. and ‘Sun ’ Cable.
THE APPLE MARKET,
LONDON, May 4. The Pakeha’s Jonathan’s realised 14s to 16s; Cox’s 20s to 265; London Pippins, 13s to 15s 6d; Adams’s Permains and Alfristons, 14s; Statesman, 15s to 16s; and Cleopatras, 16s 6d to 17s.— A.P.A. and ‘ Sun ’ Cable.
LONDON WOOL SALES
LONDON, May 4. At the wool sales there was a good general selection, and rather a better tone. The opening rates were maintained. New Zealand “ Tepuna ” realised 15d and 14d, and “ Chesterhope ” 20d and 174 d. A.P.A. and ‘Sun’ Cable.
Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from London, dated May 3:—“The wool sales opened with fair competition, large_ attendance, and indifferent selection, mostly speculators’ wool. As compared with closing rates of last series, merino, par. to Id lower; half-bred, lower; cross-bred, part to lower; slipo, par to Id lower.
