EXPANSION LEAGUE

' EXECUTIVE MEETING A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Otago Expansion League was held on Wednesday evening. The president (Mr S. B. Macdonald) was in the chair, and the members present were Messrs 0. H. Hayward, R. S. Black, A. E. Wilson, L D. Ritchie, V. Jacobs, G. J. Errington, E. Tamblyn, and T. K. Sidey, M.P. Correspondence in connection with the conference then sitting in Wellington to consider the advisability of creating a Tourist Board was discussed, and the action taken so far was approved; but further action will depend upon the results of the conference and the attitude taken by the Government on the proposal. The Southland League having expressed a warm interest in the matter of the wool display in the High Commissioner’s Office, and the New Zealand news disseminated on the transpacific steamers, copies of the replies received from the Departments of State interested had been forwarded to it. These replies were not considered by the league to be as satisfactory as Could be wished, and the secretary was instructed to put forward further reasons why services should be improved. A conference of South Island progress leagues, to which the Otago Expansion League had been invited, had been provisionally planned to meet in Christchurch early in May, but a suggestion had been forwarded from Canterbury that , a later date and tho inclusion of the 'South Island members of Parliament would be more satisfactory from, a publicity standpoint. To this idea no great objection could bo urged, especially if the date selected was one which fitted in with the travelling arrangements of the members of Parliament on their way to Wellington. A date which would probably meet tho convenience of the Otago members was suggested, and will be forwarded to Christchurch for approval. At tho same time it was stressed by all that no alliance with other centres was to bo allowed to interfere with tho pre-sessional meeting with local members, which has now become an annual institution. The decision was unanimous, and Tuesday, June 7, was definitely selected for tlio meeting in Dunedin. Matters in connection with the highways and motor parking within the city were also discussed, and after further information has been obtained both questions will bo brought up again.
