MEETING GF OTAGO EXECUTIVE A meeting of the executive _of the Otago Provincial Farmers’ Union was held yesterday. The following were present:—Messrs D. M‘Gregor Reid (vicepresident, in the chair), E. H. Murney, John Clarke, A. C. Leary, I. D. Revie, H. F. Sheat, C. R. Sheet, R. J. E. Smith, John" Christie, R. S. Stiell, R. Tohill, M. A. Kinney, A. Craig, and F. Waite, M.P. DAYLIGHT SAVING MOTION RESCINDED. Mr Murney, who had at last meeting given notice of motion that a previous resolution in favor of daylight saving be rescinded, formally moved his resolution. This was seconded by Mr Christie. and carried.—lt was pointed out during the short discussion which followed the moving of the motion that the Otago Jrovincial Conference in June, 1926, had passed a resolution opposing daylight saving, and that this resolution had been overlooked when the subsequent discussion took ,placo.

FARMERS ON TOUR. Mr G. Greig (railway goods agent), who was present by invitation, addressed the meeting briefly on the subject of the fanners’ excursion train, which is to run to Christchurch on Tuesday next. Mr Greig explained that the train would leave Clinton at a.m. and Dunedin at 12.5 p.m., and would arrive at Christchurch at 8.21 p.m. It would stop at certain stations to pick up passengers, but excursion tickets would be obtainable at all stations eu route. In Canterbury the farmers had taken the matter up most enthusiastically, and he could assure those making the trip that they were assured of a pleasant and profitable time. Visits would he paid to Lincoln Agricultural College, Addington stock sale, the Rangiora experimental farm, and one of the freezing works. The Department of Agriculture had taken tho matter up enthusiastically, and was arranging for lectures by its experts. A carriage bad been fitted up at Hillside for the purpose of displaying agricultural exhibits, and this would be handed over to the executive in Dunedin. Competent instructors would accompany the train. The North Otago fanners were also co-operating, and passengers from as far north as Studholme and (Waimate

would join tho train. The seating on the train would be made as comfortable as possible. There would bo only one class of accommodation —second —and the usual standard seats in use on the express trains would bo provided. On arrival at Christchurch there would be a reception. The engine drawing the train would he suitably decorated, and the colors of the province—blue and gold—would be used in the decorations. The following week there .would be a similar excursion from Southland, and it was possible ■ that. the: Canterbury fanners would arrange for an excursion to Otago during Winter Show Week. In reply to questions, Mr Greig said that' passengers from the Miller's Flat brancu would be arranged for. • He did not see how passengers from the Tapanui branch could be provided for, but it was possible that arrangements could bo made for them to travel with the excursion from Southland.

The Secretary (Mr S. P. Cameron) said that in order to _ make the trip even more interesting it was intended to have competitions on the train, and he suggested that two Loewe pipes should be offered, as prizes. This suggestion met with hearty approval, and the amount necessary for tlie■purchase of the pipes was subscribed iij the rpom in a few minutes.

ANNUAL MEETING. ■ The Secretary read a draft of the annual report, which is to be presented at tho conference on May 31, and it was decided that it be referred to a committee consisting of the president, vice-president, and Mr F. Waite, M.P. A committee consisting of Mr D. M. Reid (vice-president), Mr I. D. Revie, Mr H. F. Sheat, and Mr A. C. Leary was appointed to meet a committee from the Stock and Station Agents’ Association during Winter Show Week to discuss several matters relating to stock sales. The Secretary read various remits which had been forwarded from branches for discussion at the annual meeting. It was decided to receive additional remits from branches, provided that these wore forwarded to the provincial secretary promptly. It was dpcided that the conference be held on Tuesday, May 31, at 11.30 a.m.
