LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS
CHRISTCHURCH There was only one surprise in Christchurch City nominations when they closed at noon to-day. Dr Thacker, an ex-mayor of Christchurch, entered the field as a candidate for the City Council, in addition to contesting the election for Lyttelton Harbor Board. For the city mayoralty there will be a clear-cut issue between the sitting mayor, the Rev. J. K. Archer, nominee of the Labor Party, and Mr C. P. Agar, nominated by the Citizens’ Association. A total of thirty-four candidates has been nominated for the sixteen scats on the City Council. _ Sixteen are Labor representatives, sixteen are representatives of the Citizens’ Association, and two are independents.— Press Association. INVERCARGILL Cr John Miller and Mr S. M. M'Donald are nominated for the mayoralty. Twenty nominations have boon received for the twelve vacancies on the council.—Press Association. r BLENHEIM Air AI. M'Kenzie was reflected mayor unopposed. There are thirteen nominations for nine seats on the Borough Council, throe for two seats on the Power Board, four for three seats on the Hospital Board. No election for the Waflau Harbor Board is necessary.—Press Association. GORE Air David M'Dougall, ex-mayor, and Mr Dugald PoppelwelJ, sitting mayor, were nominated for the Gore mayoralty. A council election is necessary.—Press Association. HOKITIKA Mr George Perry wail re-elected mayor. Sixteen are nominated for nine seats on the council, six for three seats on the Hospital Board, and six for three seats on the Harbor Board. For Ross, Sir S. J. Evans was reelected mayor, and the council quota was just filled.—Press Association.
