MANCHESTER UNITY

Loyal Prince of Wales Juvenile Lodge held a good meeting, despite the stormy night. N.G. J3ro. Beck was in the chair, and several adult members were in attendance. An interesting programme of shooting events and some games served to pass the evening pleasantly. The membership of the lodge increases steadily, and the programme arranged for the winter months assures that the meetings will be profitable and interesting.

This lodge is moving -the district meeting in the direction of better recognition of female members in the ritual. Special notice was given to a brother attending this lodge for the first time, but who had been a member of the oulcr for forty-six years, and had visited many lodges m several pa.tr. of the world. The lodge decided to enter lor the banner competition, P.G.GAL Pro, Roseveare to coach the team. Two candidates were initiated. The increase in membership is steady V.G. Pro. Mercer and P.G. Pro. W. JPAllnm were elected delegates to the. district meeting, and were given a free hand regarding the business to be discussed. A Dutch auction formed the chief feature of the.evening, at which tumorous and varied articles wore disposed of. The lodge is under a debt of gratitude to those who made donations. The sale resulted in a substantial contribution to tho social fund. Visitors from Loyal Valley, Albion, and Dunedin resjxmded to the toast. N.G. Pro. Lazarus presided over a good attendance at the Loyal Dunedin Lodge. Visits to Loyal Valley and Prince of Wales were arranged. Jt was decided to enter a team for the banner competition, Pro. Parraclough to act as coach . Tho competition lor the position of delegate to the district meeting at Cromwell was keen, and the election resulted:—G.M. Pro. Cowie ; P.G. Pros. Scooncs. Knox, and P. G. Arnold. The district business paper was briefly discussed, and further consideration was deferred to the next meeting. D.P.G.M. Pro. P. Stabb and Prov. Troas. Pro. A. Sligo were welcome visitors from the executive, and responded to the toast in an interesting manner, it was a busy mooring. The further discussion of the matters in the district business paper will ho full of interest, as some of them are of vital importance.

There was an attendance of sixty members at the meeting of Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge, when P.G. Bro. H. McDonald presided in the absence through illness of N.G. Bro. J. Fitzgerald. The lodge decided to enter a team for the banner competition. The lodge is the holder of the banner and also winner of the shield competition, and the latter will be nrosented at the next meeting by the executive. Per. Sec. Bro. Johnson. P.P.G.M. Bro. A. Cable, P.G, Bro. W. Campbell, and N.G. Bro. J. Fitzgerald wore elected delegates to the district meeting. The Social and Organising Committee reported that all arrangements had been made to receive the official visit from sister lodges. This meeting is expected to be the largest of its kind ever held in Port Chalmers, it was also reported that arrangements for the concert in aid of the Christmas tree fund were well in hand, and a great success is confidently anticipated. Daring the evening five candidates were initiated and five more proposed. Owing to the largo attendances at meetings and the interest taken, it was decided to open the meetings at 7 p.m. during the winter months. The first report of Surplus Committee was freely discussed, and a marked difference of opinion regarding two of the proposals was found to exist. A debate on the points at issue is assured' at the district meeting.
