RAMS AND EWES
FAIR AT BURNSIDE KEEK BIDDING FDR ROMNEYS Bidding was somewhat erratic, anil ll times rather animated, with the result that it was difficult to average the valuee at the annual ram and ewe fair, held under the auspices of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society at Burnside to-day. There was a good attendance of buyers from Canterbury and Southland, and Central Otago was very well represented. BORDER LEICESTER. Tho sale of Border Leicester etude waa inclined to be dull at the outset, buyer*’ and sellers’ prices not coinciding. There was good demand for Border Leicester stud rams, particularly for anything showing good quality and carrying good wool. The top price was received by Mr T. S. Little, of Windsor, North Otago, who speured 39gs for a one-shear ram. Another 1 one-shear ram by the same vendor was purchased by Murray Bros., Clydevale, for 16g«. Mr Little sold a third at 13gs. Mr Oliver Grey, of Milburn, secured llfgs for a young lamb. COBRIEDAL-SS. Comedales were not in great supply, only nine studs being present. Chiton Estate; at Waiwera South, sent forward four, the top price being 23|g8. This was paid by Mr Ross, of Palmerston. Donald M’Knight (Palmerston) sold a one-shear of this breed for 13gs. ROMNEYS. This class was keenly sought after, and fair prices were obtained. The prices ranged from 7jgs to 25jgs, the latter being obtained by Messrs Murray Bros, for one three-shear ram, bred by Mr C. E. Allen, of Master (on. Mr W. G. Lockhead, Gore, secured 20igs for a ram of his own breeding, and Mr Thomas Lockhead of To Houka, was given 18gs for a oneshear. Mr J. H. Grigg, Longbeaeh, Canterbury, got 22gs and 13gs for two oneubear rams respectively. In tho flock section Romney rams were in best request, and fair prices ruled throughout. Mosers Moffatt Bros, sold five one-shear sheep at 71,gs each. Mr J. Lockhead (Kaitangata) received Bigs for a one-shear sheep, and Messrs Murray Bros., Adam King (Stoney Creek), and J. Lockhead each secured Bigs for their offerings of one-shear rams. A pen of six one-shears (J. H. Gregg), brought 7gs.
