DUNEDIN GUN CLUB

There was a- good attendance of members at the Green Island grounds on Saturday. The conditions favored tho shooters, with the result that an interesting programme of events was witnessed.

Tho first match was a fifteen clay bird handicap sweepstake, in which J. H. Edmond (11 yards, one star) and A. A. Fairbairn (11 yards, two stars), with fourteen birds each, shot off to decide the winner. After each gained the necessary “star” both competitors carried on with mostly first-barrel shots, and on the ninth bird J. H. Edmond won first prize money and A. A. Fairbairn second prize money. Other good scores were; E. P. Graham (19 yards) 14 birds, T. Callaghan (11 yards) 14 birds, G. E. Turner (18 yards) 13 birds, A. King (15 yards) 13 birds, and W. Smellie (13 yards) 13 birds.

The second match was a six-bird double-rise sweepstake, and with sis “breaks” G. E. Turner, off 14 yards, won the ‘first 'prize money. ' With five breaks each E. P. Graham, R. M‘Donald, T. Long, C. Al'Lay, and T. Callaghan shot off for second prize money, and this went to R. AUDonald.

Tho third match was a trial sweep stake of nine birds from 16 yards, t, provide a challenge team. In this F !?. Graham, all first barrels and J. B almond,_with only one second barrel, allied nine breaks each and divided lie prize money. Several other memoers were close up. The club’s patron (Mr R. Ruther ford) has given a handsome cup, wbicl is to bo competed for annually, tlr holder to be the best performer wifi first-barrel shooting throughout the season. The cup promises to be a coveted trophy, and will be known as the “ Rutherford Cup.”
