PARISIANS' QUIET CHRISTMAS UNUSUALLY COLD SNAP. ? Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. PARIS, December 27. The prevailing hard times, due to the too rapid recovery of the franc, took much joy out of the Christmas festivities. Most Parisians were unable to afford the high prices at the restaurants, and feasted at homo. An unusually cold snap was experienced on the Loire, which was frozen for the first time since the war. Several deaths occurred from the cold in the Loire Valley. UNEMPLOYMENT SERIOUS. MANUFACTURERS HARD HIT. PARIS, December 27. The wave of unemplovment is beginning to be serious. French manufacturers of many lines are unable to meet foreign competition. The wool factories at Roubnix and Tourcoin g are working short time, and a single mill has dismissed 1,000 employees. Two thousand five hundred shoemakers and 1,000 lacemakers are idle.
