NATIVE LEADER SHOT RACIAL FEELING HIGH. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright,
DELHI, December 26. (Received December 27, at 10.15 a.m.) A dastardly communaj outrage is reported, the Swami Shradhandad, a well-known leader being assassinated by a Mahommedan named Abdul Rashid. Swami was in bed convalescing, and his servant allowed Rashid to enter on a pretext of discussing a religious point. When the servant was momentarily absent the visitor fired five shots at the Swami's head and chest, killing him instantly. The servant, in attempting to protect the body of his master, was seriously wounded. The police arrested the assailant. Delhi is intensely excited over the crime, and all the shops are closed. It is expected that the crime will revive the communal discord which recently showed signs of dying out. Strong forces of police are patrolling the streets. Minor disorders resulted in five Hindus and one Moslem being injured.
