DONKEY RACE AT DANCE
CLUBMEN FINED SCANTILY-OI,AD WOMEN, The so-called London “ Donkey Derby ” case, when Frank Ellis, Edward Phillips, and Jack Blitz, of the Frivolity Club, were charged with selling drink without a license, has concluded. It appears that on one occasion three donkeys were actually introduced and were ridden around the dance room by scantilydressed women in what was described as a " Donkey Derby.” Ellis and Blitz were each fined £IOO, and Phillips was discharged on payment of lOgs for costs. Counsel for the defence said the “ Derby ” was organised for charity, and the proceeds went to various hospitals. One of the best-known jockeys, who participated in the affair, was disqualified from the club for five years.
