SIR HUGH DENISON
AUSTRALIAN TRADE COMMISSIONER CHANGE IN STATUS PROBABLE. Press Association—Bj Telegraph-Copyright NEW YORK, November 16. The Washington correspondent of the ‘ New York Times ’ states authoritatively that the status of Sir HughDenison (Australian Trade Commissioner) will be changed to that of Minister—probably when Mr Bruce reaches America en route to Australia from the Imperial Conference. If Mr Bruce is forced to cancel his American visit some other suitable occasion will be selected for the announcement, and one that may emphasise the importance of the closer relationship of the two Englishspeaking countries bordering the Pacific. A CONFIRMING REPORT. OTTAWA, November 17. (Received November 18, at 9.55 a.m.) The Toronto ‘ Globe’s ’ Washington special correspondent says: “ The status of Sir Hugh Denison will be changed to that of Minister within three months, according to information obtained to-day from an authoritative quarter. Mr Bruce may possibly proceed to Australia from the Imperial Conference by way of the United States, and it is probable that the contemplated change of Australia’s representation m this country may be made at that time.” DR EARLE PAGE’S COMMENT.
MELBOURNE, November 18. (Received November 18, at 10.10 a.m.) Dr Earle Pago, Acting Federal Prime Minister, states that the cabled statements regarding Sir Hugh Denison’s change of status are ridiculous. Such a tiling has not even been contemplated.
