ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
TWO INJURED IN TRAM-CYCLE COLLISION. A collision between a motor cycle and tramcar .at Wellington resulted in Henry Martin (Lower Hutt) and Charles Henry White being admitted to hospital with broken legs. Martin and White were proceeding southwards on a motor cycle in the rear of of a tram. They were on the point of turning when a northbound (No. 9) car appeared on the opposite .side of the car they were following. The driver of the No. 9 car promptly applied his brakes, but there was no chance of averting a collision. The motor cycle struck the tram with terrific force,_ and the man steering the machine was thrown against the front portion of the tram, smashing the glass to atoms, while his companion was thrown to the road. The driver of the tram escaped injury. —Eress Association. . MINER . INJURED. John Birch, aged sixty-nine s a coal miner, met with a serious accident Jn the Liverpool State colliery. Full trucks were being railed up a jig when a prop was pulled out by the weight, causing the rail to rise and crush Birch; who is now in a critical- condition in Greymouth Hospital with internal injuries.
