SHEEP DEARER; LAMBS CHEAPER. At Burnside to-day sheep advanced, while lambs cheapened. Bacon pigs were doivn a little. Other lines were scarcely changed. Sheep.—An entry of 2,086. A good sale, there being some outside competition. Shorn wethers rose by from 2s to 2s 6d per head, and woolly sheep by from Is 6d to 2s 6d. The quality of the medium-sized yarding was good all round. Good woolly ewes sold very readily. Prices: Extra heavy prime, shorn wethers, to 37s 9d; prime heavy, 34s to 3os; medium-weight prime, 28s to 325; lighter, 25s 6d to 27s 6d; extra prime heavy woolly wethers, to 48s 9d; prime heavy, 42s to 455; good medium, 38s to 41s; lighter sorts, 33s to 35s 6d; extra heavy prime wooliy ewes, to 39s 3d; prime heavy, 34s to 375; medium, 32s to 345; light and inferior, 25s to 295; best shorn ewes, to about 325; prime, 26s to 2Ss; medium and light, 22s to 25s fid. Lambs. —A penning of 173. The quality was good, though there was a sprinkling of light and inferior lambs, which were neglected by the butchers. Best sorts sold well, but prices eased generally bv 2s. Prices; Extra good lambs, to 38s fid ; medium-weight prime, 34s to 365; medium quality, 30s to 32s Cd; light and inferior, 24s to 27s 6d. Fat Cattle.—A yarding ot 303, or pood quality as a whole. Each race had a good’ many prime bullocks and a fairly largo proportion of heifers. No improvement was shown in demand, and plain sorts had an easing tendency. Rates: Prime heavy bullocks, £l4 7a to £ls 10s; lighter, £9 15s to £ll 15s; prime heifers, £8 to £lO 10s; cows, £7 10s to £lO ss. Store Cattle.—A yarding of about 200 of medium sorts, chiefly cows and heifers of fair quality. A few medium steers were included. Prices were unchanged. Pigs.—A penning of 116 fats and 137 stores. Heavy baconers wore down 5s per head, but medium baconers and porkers were at par. The yarding of stores was very big. Brood sows realised up to £3 10s, but other classes of store pigs were easier ss.
