The appointment is announced of Mr William Watson Rird, M.A., at present senior inspector of schools in the Wellington district, to the position of chief inspector of primary schools, in place of Mr T. B. Strong, ALA,, B.Sc., who was recently appointed Assistant Director of Education. 'Wellington Press Association telegram. The Mayor of Rotorua, Mr 0. H. Ciinkard, met with a serious accident at noon yesterday through falling from the roof of his garage to a concrete floor. He was removed to hospital, where an X-ray examination disclosed a severe injury to ids spine, rendering an operation imperative. Mr W. R. Duffy, representative of General Motors, N.Z., Ltd., left for Wellington this morning. Dr K. Miller has resigned his posi tion as senior house surgeon at the Dunedin Hospital. Another resignation is that of Air T. H. Fraser as assistant dispenser. Guests at the Grand Hotel include Air and Airs C. M. Taliack (Calcutta), Mr N. S. Lloyd (Sydney), Air C. G. Camp (AVellington), Messrs H. Alaekrell and W. Palmer (Invercargill), Mr J. W. ITay*s (Waimate)._ Staying at the Excelsior Hotel are Air L. D. Thomson (Sydney), Air and Airs L. J. Johnston (Melbourne), Air A. E. and R. 0. Talbot (Christchurch), Air G. Blaekbam (Tiinaru), Air J. F. Dundas (Invercargill). Private advices report tho death at Sydney recently of Mr George Green, who will be remembered in Dunedin as a sculler and son of Air Henry Green, tho well-known boat builder. A Sydney ‘Sun’ cable message from London states that Lord Byiig will receive a viscorintcy in recognition of services as Governor-General of Canada. Messrs D. R. A. Cooper, FI.M. (Wellington)., John Alexander (Auckland), and B. L. Dalian! have been appointed members of the Prisons Board, —Wellington Press Association telegram.
