EXHAUSTIVE TEST APPLIED

CHRISTCHURCH, October 8. The twelve Canterbury competitors who will contest the linnl for the Beauty Contest wore selected by the judges last night, after n lasting from 5.30 p.m. to midnight, iiortjtwo competitors who had been selected from the photographs attended. The entrants were representative of the whole province. Judging was extremely difficult, but absolutely exhaustive, especially where physique and good health were concerned. The medical members of the committee, including a lady doctor, eliminated any competitor showing any delect, dental or otherwise. Measurements were then carefully checked, and the contestants reduced to eighteen about 10 o clock j but it was after 11.30 p.m. before the competitors were sent to their homes in a fleet of taxi cabs. After an earlier supper to relieve the tedium of waiting, the competitors assembled in a large board room, and tire judges in an° adjoining room. Tlio girls appeared in evening dress, and fraternised in best spirits. The twelve finalists are Misses Ruby Jacobs, J. Ivincpy A. Davie, E. Digney, P. Mann, 6, Bryden, C. Hales, B. M. Harvey, M E.' Pvcroft, V. Kelly, B. Macroslie, and V. E. Barnes. All are Christchurch girls, except Miss Baines, who belongs to Tiniarn.
