A LITTLE PRIVATE DONNYBROOK

FRIENDS FALL OUT [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, September 10. “The wide thing is very unfortunate. They were the best of friends, but they had a little private Donnybrook,” said Mr Byco Hart in the Police Court, when Arthur Cole and Janies Johnston were charged with assaulting one another. Mr Hart appeared for Cole and Mr Fraser for Johnston. “Are they good friends again?” asked the magistrate (Mr F. K. Hunt). “ Oh, yes, it is all over now,” said Mr Hart. The Magistrate: Then get out of the court and let them shako hands. Mr Fraser: That will suit mo. The Magistrate suggested that both sides should share costs, but Mr Hart said: “Oh, we will pay the costs.” Tho Magistrate: Oh, your man got first blow in, did he? Mr Hart was explaining that this was not the case, when the sub-inspeo-tor intervened. The Magistrate: Oh, it is a police prosecution, is it? I thought it was a private one. The Sub-inspector explained that the dispute had occurred between the men n regard to a horse at the saleyards. They were separated, but the dispute was later renewed outside the yards. Johnston was tripped up and struck his head, being rendered unconscious. The Magistrate (glancing at counsel for each defendant in turn); A guinea there and a guinea there. This is sufficient. Go away now. The charge against Johnston was dismissed as trivial, and that against Cole was dismissed on the payment of costs.
