CANTERBURY V. HAWKE’S BAY

At a meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union yesterday the president (Mr S. F. Wilson) said he was certain that the match against Hawke’s Bay on September 18 would bo a _ shield match. The mayor will bo invited to attend a dinner to the Bay team. “Hawke’s Bay are more than an ordinary provincial team,” said Mr Wilson in making tins proposal, “They are undoubtedly the greatest representative team New Zealand has ever seen, and instead of being a little bit envious we ought to bo proud of them.”—Press Association telegram.
