UNEMPLOYMENT
FEWEB ME! APPLYIHB There are not so many men in quest of work at the present timo aa was the case a few weeks ago, and, according to the Town Hall employment officer fMr R. Moffat), the position is a good deal easier at the moment. There were six fresh applications for work at the Labor Department’s bureau to-day, the total unemployed at 11 a.m. being 183. The department has had no further advice from the Government concerning the commencement 'of Government works. Three more men were paid off corporation works yesterday, but four men were placed privately by the Town Hall authorities this morning. A number of people interested in a private right of way have co-operated in regard to improving it, which has made work for three men, who commenced this morning, and will probably be engaged for a week. No more men will be paid off corporation works until Friday’s meeting of the Citizen’s 'Unemployment Relief Executive comes to some decision in tho n\atter. There do not appear to he many tradesmen out of work now, tho majority of men unemployed being laborers. ■ The unemployment officer Mr R. Moffat), who has also been acting as secretary of the Citizens’ Unemployment Relief Committe for some time, will ho relinquishing his position at an early date to take up other duties.
