DIPHTHERIA AT HOSPITAL.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —Can you tell me what is the cause of diphtheria breaking out in the children’s ward of tho Dunedin H#;pital? Is it a fact that in the early part of this year diphtheria occurred in the children’s ward? Tho second outbreak began on July 21, 1926, and was declared officially stamped out on Wednesday last, 28th, tho ward having been quarantined on only the previous Wednesday. The children all had negative swabs, and I have always understood that after tho third swab has proved negative tho patient is quite free from diphtheria. The ward was again thrown open to the public, but tho following day, July 28, one of the little inmates was found to bo suffering from this dread disease. Though P would not like to hint that there is any laxity on the part of the hospital authorities, might I suggest, in the interest of the parents and patients alike, that the matter —a very grave one—should bo most searchingly inquired into?—l am, etc.. Mother or a Patient. August 3.
