THURSDAY, JULY 1. (Before Air J. R. Bartholomew, S.AI.) YOUNG MAN’S PLIGHT. A young man was charged with having been found drunk in Dunbar street yesterday, and also with having obtained liquor during tho currency of a prohibition order. The accused pleaded not guilty to the first charge, admitted the second. The Senior Sorgeaut_ said that the man came into the station at 8 o’clock last evening and asked to be locked up. Ho did not appear to bo very drunk, but tho police considered it advisable to put him in a cell in ease he was on the verge of a breakdown. Tho accused asked for a remand for seven days. He stated he had a good position, but ho might lose it if his name appeared in the papers. The man was remanded for seven days, the ALagistrate asking the Press nob to publish accused’s name. “DOWN AND OUT.” “ He’s down and out,” said the Senior Sergeant when Horace YVilliam Aitken was charged with having heou found by night without lawful excuse in the motor garage of James Brown Samson under circumstances that did not disclose the commission of or intention to commit any other offence. Tho accused pleaded guilty, stating that he had boon in town a week, but found it impossible to obtain work at his trade. Senior-sergeant Qunrtermain said that the man was found sleeping in tho garage, having apparently found no difficulty in getting into the Imilding. The Magistrate (to accused) : It looks as if you have brought this on yourself to some extent.” Ho was remanded for a week in order obtain a report from tho probation officer (Air F. G. Camming).
