LABOR IN AUSTRALIA
STATEMENTS DENIED NO PARTY SPLIT. Pre»s Association—By Telegraph—Copyrighi Australian and N.Z. Press Association MELBOURNE, June 15. (Received June 15, at 10.5 a.m.) The officials of the Australian Labor Party emphatically deny that there is any truth in the statements published in Sydney to the effect that the Federal Executive of the party would probably expel Mr Charlton and other leaders from the party for the stand they had taken in regard to the proposed referendum on the alteration of the Federal Constitution. [A Sydney message stated; A Labor split is threatened over Air Bruce’s referendum proposals recently introduced in the Federal Parliament. The attitude of Air Charlton (Leader of the Federal Labor Party) and a number of his followers, who, in view of concessions to which Air Bruco had acceded, agreed to support the proposals, is strongly resented by many La-bentos. The Australian Workers’ Union, which is the strongest union in the Commonwealth, has definitely decided to oppose tho referendum, and the Australian Labor Party Executive has called a meeting for Friday, at which Air Charlton and probably some other prominent followers will ho asked to explain their attitude. Important developments are anticipated, and possible expulsions are talked of.]
