THE MERRYMAKERS
LAST NIGHT’S SAVOY DANCE. The old adapts “ Nothing succeeds like success ” was exemplified last night, when a large number of happy couples assembled at the 'I udor Hall (the Savoy) and participated in the second hip Thursday night Merrymakers’ dance. The “ come as you are” idea has caught on in regard to these mid-week dances at the Savoy. Tills is not surprising, as the inducement held out is indeed one that would not he met with in any other centre. First, there is the unique setting (for the Tudor Hall is unique, «) far as Australasian cabaret halls _ are concerned), then the enchanting music, and, finally, the joyful company which the dancers find themselves in. A feature of the music which the new Savoy band provides is the ability of the musicians to “ring the changes,” so to speak. The charge of being purely “a. blaring jazz orchestra- ” cannot he made against them. The dreamy waltz and the jinky one-step are equally well played and afford equal pleasure. So the' “ Merrymaker ” patrons ff'uncl last night, any'wav, and the three hours from 8 to ll o’clock proved all too short for them. The jolly, informal “ come-as-you-arc ” danco is certainly popular. To-morrow afternoon there, will be the usual “afternoon tea” danco at the popular price, while in the evening the weekly supper-dance promises to be as well patronised as ever. There are manv who prefer this “ evening dress ” event, and who make Saturday night their special night. And these folk, ton, invariably enjov themselves to the full.
