RED REFLECTORS NEEDED
CYCLISTS ENDANGERING THEMSELVES The need of red reflectors on the rear of bicycles was emphasised by President Ansell at the Otago Motor Club mooting last night. Reporting on the proceedings of the New Zealand Motor Conference in Christchurch, he said that the matter had been considered. The use of red reflectors on cycles should be insisted on by the Government. At the present time it was a by-law in some places and not in others. Ho understood that they had the br-law in Dunedin. A Member: No. The by-law is that a red light should be carried. Mr Ansell: At any rate it is honored in the breach. He said that quite a number of accidents happened simply because cyclists would not spend Is or Is 6d on a red reflex* for their cycles, which would be picked up by the lights of a motor car approaching from the rear. The conference had decided to forward its representations to the Hon. R. F, Bollard, and ask him to issue immediately instructions that red reflectors must, he carried.
