THE COAL STRIKE ft BROKEN 1 HILL CLOSES DOWN. Press Association—By Telegraph—Conyrijlit. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. SYDNEY, June 7. Several mills at the Broken Hill Proprietary’s Steel Works have closed owing to the coal strike, thus rendering idle 500 employees. Supplies for other parts of the works, wl\ero 3,000 men are employed, will last only another fortnight. DISTRESS RATIONS. DISTRIBUTION IN LITHGOW DISTRICT. SYDNEY, June 8. (Received June 8, at 9.55 a.m.) As a result of the coal strike, distribution orders for rations have commenced in the Lithgow district. The police have authority to issue orders to those in distress. A week’s rations for a single man is three loaves of bread, 31b or meat, 4oz of tea, 31b of sugar, 12oz of jam, 11b of condensed milk, and s!b of butter. In the case of married people the quantities are increased according to the size of the families, provision oeing made for a family up to ten members.
