EMPIRE Adolphe Menjou heads the big cast in ‘Sinners in Silk,’ tho new headliner at the Empir3 Theatre. Menjou, as a prematurely aged man of the world, seeks rejuvenation at the hands of science. Ho undergoes treatmentrund i returns to his circle a new man. He soon tires of tho old life, when ho is introduced to Penelope Stevens, the leader of a smart jazz set, a girl whose escapades come from sheer light-heart-eduess. Pen, however, is more interested in Brock Farley, a rather serious young man, who doesn’t approve_ of Pen’s ways. It is her love of tempting danger which leads Pfcn through many exciting moments in this particularly bright production, and which finally brings her a well-merited lesson. Monjou is quite at home in a role written for him, and he makes the fullest use of -it. Eleanor Boardman is seen in one of the pictures which have led critics to predict her early stardom, and Conrad Nagel is again responsible for an interesting interpretation of drama. Their good work is reflected in the able support of the other players. The producer has injected many flashes of humor into the sequence, which contrasts well with the more tense moments. This is said to he very noticeable towards the end of the picture. when Menjou set the stage for lus experiment upon the character of Pen. And then conies the queer turn of the plot, winch upsets the best-made Ilians, and the picture finishes up in a surprising!v novel fashion. Under Air C. Parnell the Empire Select Orchestra plays a good selection of music. The overture is ‘Echoes of the Opera,’ and the entr’acte is selections from ‘Sally.’ OCTAGON The new picture to commence a season at the Octagon Theatre to-night is ‘ The Linking of O’Malley.’ It is said to he a good picture, in which there is objective, action, melodrama, well motivated—a picturo_ in_ which there are displays of primitive emotions, fear, rage, revenge, passion, and hatred. Dorothy Mackaill heads a brilliant supporting cast. Tho principal actor is Alilton Sills, who fights Ilia way to glory and love as a real twofisted member of tho police force There is an excellent cast supporting the stars. Included are Thos._ Carrigan, who gained a high place in filmdnm as Nick Carter in the detective series;. Helen six-year-old screen actress: Claude King, Warner Richmond, Julia Hurley, Allen Brandor, Charles Graham, Nell Craig, and Jack De Lacey. Thrills galore, pathos, tragedy, color, real fun, beautiful photography, a wonderful love story, and unusual settings are promised in ‘The Making of O’Malley.’ A large part of the picture was photographed on the streets of New York City, Cdiore Sills is shown actually engaged in directing New York’s street traffic.
