NORTH-EAST HARBOR MOTES

[From Our Correspondent] For some time past Hie need for the establishment of u branch ot the Anglican Church in this district has been very apparent. With this end in view a meeting was held in the local hall last Monday evening, there being about thirty residents present. Mr ■/. Mitchell was voted to the, chair, and Mr Flolderness, of the Dunedin diocese, was also present. It- was tho unanimous opinion of the mooting that a start should be made as early as possible with the Sunday services, and after a full discussion it was resolved that the first service be held in the hall on Sunday next, the 14th inst., at 7 p.m. Tho following committee was set np to carry out the necessary details in connection with the services:—Messrs Mitchell f chairman), W. T. Mil ward (secretary), J. M-'Niven (treasurer), E. A. Gibson. C. Vivian, T. Bricked, S. Hitchcock, and Me-sdames Niven, Gibson, and Bndd. An enthusiastic meeting was brought to a close with votes of thanks to Mr Holderness and the chair. The team from the Otago Rowing Club which had been quartered in our midst during tho past few weeks for tho purpose of preparing themselves for the blue riband contest at the championship rowing regatta have covered themselves with fame. That it pays to go' in for .systematic training in this manly sport was fully borne out by the line performance put up by the members of tile crew. It was hardly expected, however, that they would lower t fie colors of last year’s champions from the Hamilton Club, but, as the contest turned out, the latter erew had to take, second place to Otago’s representatives. Young Roy Hook was evidently a lucky mascot, for, besides steering our bovs to victory, he later in the day did" tfie same for the Waiteraata crew. Dunedin has again been “ put on the map ” of the sport.
