BATTLE Of JUTLAND

BRITISH NAVY'S INFERIORITY .MAG A ZIN ES INA DEQ V A TELY PROTECTED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. .LONDON, January 7. Vice-admiral Chambers (who was Admiralty Port Officer at Reap,a from 19.15 to 1917), in a letter to tho ‘Daily Express,’ states:— “it is universally conceded that in tho Hattie of Jutland our foot, as regards shells, mines, torpedoes, and range-finders, was inferior to that, of Germany. The most outstanding defect, causing tho loss'of many ships at Jutland, was tho lack of a contrivance to isolate the magazines irom the result of lire on the gun positions. It was this, rather than tho superior German shooting, which prevented Jutland from being a complete British success, thus prolonging tho war and costing the country hundreds ot millions of pounds and tens of thousands of lives. Ro far as the Navy knows, nobody was brought to book for this grave blunder by the Construction Department, which only protected the magazines after Jutland.”— A. and N.Z. Cable.
