PINGPONG POLITICS

COUNCIL AND ASSEMBLY VICTORIAN GOVERNMENT BAULKED. Pies# Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. MELBOURNE, December 18. (Received December 18, at 9.40 a.m.) The Legislative Council refused to sanction the proposed increased taxation, and returned the Bill to the Assembly, suggesting that last year's rates should still stand and that the increases he abandoned. The Assembly refused, and sent the Bill back to the Council. The latter, however, reaffirmed its previous procedure, and returned the measure to the Assembly. During the debate the Minister of Forests said that if the Council persisted in its attitude the Government would be unable to carry on. A dissolution is expected.
