TO THE EDITOR. Sir,' —The local branch of the British and Foreign Sailors’ Society prepares an annual Christmas tea for the mmnicn who chance to bo in our forts at the festive season, and requires funds for this beneficent purpose. Your readers are very ready to assist such charitable schemes, and the executive would be grateful for any financial assistance they may feel free to give. The lot of the seamen when afloat is hard enough, and their perils ashore arc far too great. Anything wo can do to add to their safety and comfort wo should cheerfully do. Gifts in aid of the Christmas tea will he thankfully received by C. E. Beokingsawj, Treasurer, c/o Messrs Murray, Roberts, Ltd. 11. 11. Dux vim, Secretary, 32 George street. December 17.
