THE SISTINE SOLOISTS

A REMARKABLE BARITONE Much is expected of Amedeo 'Burani, the youthful baritone with the celebrated Sistine Choir Soloists, who will give a season of four concerts in His Majesty’s Theatre, commencing on next Tuesday evening. Burani is _ only twouty-four years of age, and is described as being of commanding physique.,. with an ingratiating, platform manner. His voice is said to bo almost an exact counterpart of that of Titta Rutfo, the world-famous operatic baritone, whoso gramophone records have made him well known to New Zealand music-lovers. Like Rufto, the now Sistine singer can command an enormous volume without the least effort. The tonal quality is very even throughout the whole range of the voice, with appropriate changes for lyric and dramatic works. Alter the soloists’ opening concert in the Sydney Town Hall in May last Mr Roland Foster, of the New South Wales Conservatorium, said: n The finest baritone I have heard in twenty years.” At the forthcoming concerts Signor Burani will be heard in the stirring monologue from Giordano’s opora, 1 Andrea Chenier,’ the over-popular prologue to ‘ I Pagliacci,’ the ‘ Soug of the Toreador ’ from ‘ Carmen,’ and many other lesser numbers, including the 'Spanish song ‘ La Partida,’ popularise! hv Madame Galli-Curci. Other newcomers with the soloists are Signori Auchner, Fcrri, and Morgia. Old favorites are Signori Paganelli, Pacchini, Belli, and Sarti, and the inimitable Maestro Casolari.
