GIRLS’ STRIKE THREAT
varsity prohibits smoking. STENCILLED LEGS. CHICAGO, October 6. Chicago girls hare no objection to a classical education except when it cramps their style. Millionaires’ daughters -who go to collegers not necessarily intent on becoming blue stockings. Recently the girls of North-west University refused, to wear stockings at all, preferring to have their satin-like skins beautifully stencilled. After grave deliberation the Professorial Board threatened with expulsion those who drew attention to their physical rather than their mental development. Finally the ladies compromised by rolling their stockings well below the knee. But now the poor persecuted dears are wondering what’s the uso of leaving Lome if you can’t do as you like. The latest university decree strikes even harder at feminine liberty. Smoking has been prohibited. This time no patched-up truce is possible. Unless they are allowed to smoke the girls threaten to go on strike and refuse to have even a nodding acquaintance with Cicero and Sophocles.
