NEW ZEALAND STATEMENTS REPLY BY SHIPPING FEDERATION. Press Association—By Telegraph-Copyright LONDON, October 2. (Received October 3, at 12.5 p.m.) Reply mg to the statements made by the Labor members in the New Zealand House of Representative the Shipping Federation states that, firstly, over 90 per cent, of the seamen wore represented on the Maritime Board, tho only withdrawal in 1921 was a small section of the stewards, owing to internecine quarrels, and most of these rejoined through Mr Havelock Wilson’s union, their president, Mr Joseph now being organiser for Mr Wilson. Secondly, the membership of the National Maritime Board consists of organisations which appoint their representatives annually. Mr Wilson is appointed that way. Thirdly. Mr Wilson's union remains a member of the board, and represented by its principal officials from the principal ports.—A. and N.Z. Cable. THE AUCKLAND STRIKERS. [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, October 8. A deputation representing the Seamen’s Strike Committee is going to Wellington to take part in the confer ence with the Prime Minister. The strikers in Auckland are being provided for by levies or contributions horn the workers of the various unions. The members of the Seamen’s Union are being levied at the rate of 2s 6d a Kbh, while the watersidors contri 2J per cent, of their earnings. The other unions are to contribute vol tmtarily. FARMERS’ RESOLUTION. [Per United Press Association.] HASTINGS, October 3. The executive of the Farmers’ Union wired the Prime Minister strongly urging the Government to take immediate steps to have the ships manned and despatched. FOUR SEAMEN FINED. AUCKLAND, October 3. Four seamen from the steamer Devon were fined 10s and costs and ordered to return to their ship. One of them saidr "Wo will not go to sea for £9 10s a month.”
