(Received October 3, at 10.50 a.m.) In the House of Representatives Mr Bruce announced that in the next Parliament proposals would be submitted to pay a bounty of £4 a ton for the manufacture of merchantable newsprint and other paper from Australian raw material. It was hoped thereby to develop and firmly establish an important new industry. He particularly deferred to the proposals by the amalgamated zinc cmpanies to manufacture in Tasmania paper from Australian hardwoods. THE BABBIT PEST SYDNEY, October 3. (Received October 3, at 10.50 a.m.) An official report announces the discovery that the rabbits in the Oooma district are heavily infested with fluke, and urges that before dealing with the disease in sheep and cattle the rabbit pest should be dealt with, NEW SOUTH WALES WHEAT CROP SYDNEY, October 3. (Received October 3, at 11.5 a.m.) The Government Statistician reports that the total area of sown wheat for the current season is 3,686,000 acres, of which 3,327,000 will be harvested and the remainder cut for hay. The figures represent a decrease in the area sown of 262,000 acres, or 6.6 per cent., as compared with the previous year. The Kea to be harvested is 216,000 acres ns than in 1924.
