PARIS, September 24. (Received September 25, at 11.30 a.m.)
General Gamalin’s force entered Sucida, supported by tanks, after encountering stiff resistance on the heights south of Telaviv. The Druses are tailing back northwards between Telaviv and Sueida. Tho garrison of Sucida which GenoraT' Gamelin relieved has been besieged since July 22, when oil 1 ' French troopn occupied the citadel, which was surrounded. Aeroplanes supplied tho garrison, including one woman, for two months, though latterly, owing to lack of petrol, the aeroplanes were, sent only occasionally. The Druses recently bombarded tho citadel with artillery. Apparently tho lire was directed by Turldsh officers. It caused a number of casualties, which were all the more serious as the garrison did not include a doctor.
Tim French arc most gratified at the relief of Sueida, especially in view of the effect the fall or the citadel would have had on the Syrian campaign from a political viewpoint.—Reuter.
