BRITISH AGRICULTURE
SYSTEM OF LAND TENURE. NEW FORM DESIRABLE. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, September 18. Mr Lloyd George, in outlining the Liberal land campaign, said the State should resume authority over the land, and toe landlords should be fairly compensated, but not by a capital payment and not for monopoly value. They should get the same not income as they now enjoyed. British agriculture was at present under-capitalised, so State credit was essential. In place of the landlord and tenant system a new form of land tenure should be established. The only title to use laud for agriculture should he the ability to use it well. Indolent and inefficient cultivators could not be permitted to entrench themselves on the- land, and small holdings must be encouraged. Every laborer should receive half an acre of land of his own. Afforestation and drainage must be speeded up.— A. and N.Z. Cable.
