THE BIG EXHIBITION

MEETING OF DIRECTORS The weekly meeting of the directors of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition Company was held last night, and was attended by Messrs J. Sutherland Ross (chairman), 1. L. Halsted, W- R- Hayward, C. Todd, A. Barnett, C. Speight, H. L. Tapley, H. If. Sincnnk, and P. Barr. Accounts amounting to it-i -S Ju were passed for payment. TENDERS. The following tenders _ were accepted Electric lighting in restaurant, .National Electric and Engineering Comapny, £67 KJs; electric lighting of entrance gates, National Electric and Engineering Company, £bo /s Cd ’ EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. The Executive Committee reported that it had resolved to authorise the gone Val manager to advertise for sec-ond-hand seats for the Festival Hall. It had also resolved to instruct Mr Anscombo to prepare alternative pioposals for seats of a portable character. An estimate of the cost of topdressing parking area No. 1 was icferred to the directors. The report was adopted. HORTICULTURE COMMITTEE. The Horticulture Commiteo reported that at its last meeting Mr W. B. Steel had stated that the fruitgrowers in Central Otago proposed to have a combined fruity show during the period of the Exhibition. Tdie chairman explained that the fruitgrowers had been invited to make a comprehensive displav in the show to bo held in the Exhibition grounds at the end of January. The chairman reported that the planting of the border on the south-west corner of tho park by the Amenities Society had been finished. The chairman also reported that one of the lagoons was holding water fairly well, but that the other _ was leaking and would require puddling. Tho report was adopted. WOMEN’S SECTION.

The Secretary of the women’s section reported that 'the correspondence now reaching the office gave an idea of forthcoming interesting exhibits. A letter from Lady Gunson, of Auckland, gave news-of a meeting of ernftswornen to bo held in that city at which Lady Fergusson would speak explaining the section’s activities. A strong women’s committee had been formed in Auckland, which should be responsible for a fine exhibit for the section. Letters had been received by the president from Lady Alice Fergusson and Lady Synth,ia Colville, announcing the intention of Her Majesty Queen Mary 1o send an cx'hibit to the section. The question was raised as to the provision of a rest room for women employees, and as to -whether adequate lavatory conveniences were being provided for women visitors to the Exhibition. This was answered by the secretary, and the committee was assured that those questions were being attended to by the management of the Exhibition. The spectacular dance to be held in September was reported upon, and it was decided to add to the committee, which was doing such splendid work in arranging for poster parades and group dancing, as well as providing a splendid night’s entertainment. The committee which had in hand the, planning and the designing of the section had been faced with the responsibility of meeting the requirements of all the display sections which had only to be detailed to enable the difficult work confronting them to be appreciated. The report was adopted.
