POLICE COURT
THURSDAY, AUGUST 20. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) A BAD START. James Hogan was charged with drunkenness, also with being deemed a rogue and a vagabond, in that he was found by night without lawful excuse in the bakehouse of David Hannah Marshall, in Moray place. Sub-inspector O’Halloran asked for a remand on the more serious/charge. Accused, lie said, was a stranger to the town and was found getting through into the bakehouse last night. The police would like to find out more about the man, who was making rather a poor start as a citizen. Hogan said ho had come here to try to get work at the Exhibition. Accused was remanded to the 26th inst on the major charge, and fined 10s, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment, on the charge of drunkenness. DRUNKENNESS. A first offender, who had been found unconscious and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance, was convicted and discharged on a charge of drunkenness, the Magistrate remarking that the defendant had already been mulcted in expenses for the ambulance. Another first offender (also a male) was fined 10s, in default twenty-four hoars’ imprisonment.
